Closed 5/22/2012 due to a ringworm outbreak (let us know if and when it re-opens). Opened June 9, 2008 (aka Glasmann Park). Here are some photos by the dog park social club CHDPSC. This dog park was closed in the winter from Nov - March.

The dog park closed on 5/22/2012 due to a ringworm outbreak. Ringworm is a fungal infection that can be transmitted by both humans and dogs. Several dogs seen by vets had been to the park and had ringworm. Let us know if and when the park re-opens.
Directions:From 40th ST., take Palmer Drive until the road divides. Bear to right, and continue to end of Palmer Drive South. Palmer Drive South dead ends in the parking area for SODP.
NEWCOMERS and Old Timers @ SODP.......
As SODP Old Timers know, SODP has never opened on APRIL 1, even though that is what the sign says next to the only entrance to SODP. Last year it opened about about APR 20. Join us on the SODP FB site for weekly updates:

Many of us will post on that site WHEN SODP is open.
As per always, the Bulletin Board inside SODP will have the hours that SHOPKO is open. This store is just west of SODP on Riverdale Road. Most people use SHOPKO if they need a bathroom while using SODP. SHOPKO bathrooms are always reasonable clean. And you can buy sodas, etc. at SHOPKO.
The info on this park says that the bathrooms in the public park are available. This is not so! They have never been unlocked in all the times I have been there.
Worry-free off-leash park with open space and forested sections. It is great for the dogs to explore with lots of chairs around, shovels and buckets for the "orphaned" and owned poo.
For those of you who move to North Davis County and Weber County from other states which have DOG PARKS on every other corner, please read all the comments on the SOUTH OGDEN DOG PARK section.

This will give you a bit of the history of DOG PARKS in WEBER COUNTY. If you still want to work on an additional DOG PARK in Weber County, go to SODP when it opens after APR 1 2010, and talk with people there.
Sadly, for most users of SODP, it will close NOV 1. So I guess you will find the chain on the outer gate SUN NOV 1, 2009. Maybe next year it will not close except for one month in MUD SEASON. So maybe that would be March. DUSK @ SODP is when it gets dark. Which changes every month that SODP is open. Right now in OCT that would probably be 8pm.
We haven't been to the dog park yet, in fact we just found out about it. I wish we would've known about the park sooner, because we love to socialize our dogs (a puggle and a German shepherd). I'm disappointed it closes for the winter, but I guess I understand why. So if I'm understanding correctly, Saturday the 31st is the last day to visit the park before it closes for the winter? Also, when is it considered dusk this time of year? 7:00, 8:00? I'm just not sure. Thanks in advance :)
If you can bring him during the day, any time between dawn and 5pm, there will be very few dogs in this 2 acre totally fenced dog yard. Today at about noon there were only about 5-7 dogs.
When you take him from your car to the double gated entrance, get him in the entrance and take off the leash. Then let the "greeter dogs" come sniff him through the fence of the entrance. When he seems calm and the other dogs go away, then open the gate into the DOG PARK and let him take his time, sniffing his way into the DOG PARK.
When fewer dogs are in SODP, there is lots of space for them to roam in and sniff around. So he will be fine at the less busy times of day.
Also take him for a walk on the Weber River Pathway, starting at the Golf Frisbee Parking lot, just off Riverdale Road, behind CANYON SPORTS. Go to Canyon Sports and ask them how to get to this parking lot. When you walk your dog, from the parking lot towards the Toll Road and Mountains,it is legal to walk your dog OFF LEASH on this part of OGDEN RIVER PARKWAY. With the new addition to the blacktopped pathway completed in June 2009, you can now walk, in all 4 seasons, on the blacktop road, from this parking lot, towards mountains, for about 1 mile. It is a great place to exercise any dog, because of the new extended blacktopped pathway. AND the Animal Services of Riverdale City will never ticket anyone on that part of Weber River Parkway walking their dog off leash. BUT Ogden City Animal Control have been giving tickets to people with their dogs off leash at Big Dee Park and along the Ogden River Parkway, from Big Dee Park to the Ogden Botanical Garden.
My dog is somewhat social, he has been in kennels where they solcialize the dogs, he has met dogs in the neighbothood, but never off the leash. He has never been agressive to another dog, but he is VERY pertective of the family and tends to get jealous if the kids play with another dog. He is not gettting the exercise he deservers and I would like him to be able to runn off his leash for a while. Do you think it would be okay if we brought him for a trial? Should i keep him on his leash until we seem comfortable?
This comment reads like it was written by someone who has not been to this dog park, ever. Much of the information is incorrect and/ or vague.
SODP opened to the public 6.9.2008. It was closed by South Ogden City 11.1.2008. Then reopened 4.7.09, in spite of a sign that said it would re-open 4.1.2009. SODP will likely close 11.1.2009, in spite of letters to local paper, the Standard Examiner.
South Ogden will get a new Mayor in NOV 2009 election, who will take office Jan 1, 2010. In South Ogden City, the Mayor can appoint a new CITY MANAGER. SOC Mayor can also impact the Chief of Police, the Dir of Parks. Both of these departments impact how SOC treats this user- maintained DOG PARK.
SODP continues to have light use in AM. The double-gated entrance is NEVER locked, during the months SODP is open. Officially SODP can be used from dawn to dusk. And it is. Older people with smaller dogs typically come in the AM hours. They sometimes have the park to themselves with their dogs.
During the summer months (here in Northern Utah, that is JUNE-AUG) the majority of SODP users bring their dogs after work, from 5pm on. As the summer gets hotter and days are longer, people stay in park until 9:30pmMT.
This year (2009) with SODP opened more months (4.7.09 to 11.1.2009) SODP users have been very irresponsible about picking up after their dogs. If you choose to use SODP, which is free to the public, regardless of where you use, do a little PAY BACK by picking up after your dog and a few other orphan poops that irresponsible SODP users have left behind.
When SODP opened 6.9.08 the enclosed 2 acres of DOG PARK had been picked up by a small group of local DOG Owners/ concerned citizens. Many of those people no longer use SODP. As a result NEWCOMERS have become very irresponsible, leaving human litter, full dog poop bags, unused dog poop bags, dog toys, tree branches, logs, donated plastic chairs........all over the grass areas of SODP. As a result the SOC Parks Department has stopped mowing the grass.
When you look at the pictures on this site, note they are from the 2008 season of SODP.
If you go to SODP before it closes 11.1.2009 or in the 2010 season, please do your part to pick it up, not continue to TRASH SODP.
In the last few days, during all the rain, SODP has been trashed by greater OGDEN area gangs. Starting in OCT 2007, the area which is now SODP and its parking lot was take away from use by local gangs, prostitutes, drug dealers, drug buyers...
Please go to SODP now that the rain has stopped and help clean it up.
Someone sent me this link: http://leerburg.com/dogparks.htm
I do not agree with a lot of what is said on this site. HOWEVER, the points regarding DOG PARKS are provocative, even if they do not pertain to all well managed dog parks.
So thanks to those who use SODP and help it remain clean and well managed.
Roy has a dog park that is open during the winter its not as nice as the one in ogden by any means, but its some room to run when you have nowhere else to go. you can find it one this site. just wanted to let you all know
I brought my pitbull puppies (7 months & 9 months) to the dog park yesterday. At first I was a little worried what other people might think just because they are "pitbulls," but I knew my dogs were great and well behaved dogs, so we tried it out. And I'm SOOOO glad we did. Our dogs loved it and they were great with the other dogs. A few owners however didn't seem to watch their dogs very well. However, it was a great experience. I enjoyed it and I know my dogs did too.
Some people just don't seem to get it. If there dog is aggressive even if its only to one or two dogs don't bring them, it causes problems for the other people with well behaved dogs. I personally have had three bad encounters with the same dog and the people still come in while I'm there. Its just inconsiderate if they need to run their dog do it when no one is there.
We went there today for the first time. Fabulous. My dog Rudy had a blast. Thank you Nancy and Joe Scott
This dog park has been quite busy this season but the mornings on weekdays are usually slower. Your best bet is to come early in the day, see how many dogs are there, and if you feel good about it then let someone in the park know you and your pups are new. That way they can make sure their dogs don't overwhelm your dogs too much. This is assuming your dogs have been socialized and are friendly. Also, be sure to remove the leash inside the double gated section before you enter the main park, so your dogs don't feel threatened with the leash on. Have fun!
Hello. My husband is currently at Hill AFB for a few weeks and myself and our 2 pups are going to visit him next week. I have never taken them to a (crowded) dog park by myself. Just wondering if I should know anything before taking them there, what time would be better for their (our) first time. Thanks and we are excited! - Heather
We took our English Mastiff Roxy there the other day and what a great dog park. Seems like a good community of people go there regularly and of course bring there dogs. Its a good idea to bring water with you because the water is not turned on yet.
That is right folks. Just 1 week late. Someone said it opened at about NOON today. Does anyone reading herre know for sure??
Today it is sunny and at the moment 49 degrees outside. Yet the SODP is still closed!! I am super dissapointed in South Ogden city. If they are waiting for good weather, what counts as "good"? Are they waiting for it to be 90 degrees out?
I am disapointed that the dog park is not open, since my wife and I have literally been counting down the days. I agree %100 with closing the park during the winter due to wear and tear.
I am more disapointed that nothing has been posted on the South Ogden City website or on the Manager's Blog.
Our dogs are going stir crazy! Why on earth would such a large dog park be closed? I frequently use the Hill AFB dog park which is open ALL YEAR. But it's small and my two large Boxers sure need more room to run and get all their Cabin Fever Jitters out!
South Ogden needs to find a solution so the park can stay open year round--seriously!
I agree. I don't understand why the park has to be closed during the winter, but maybe there's something I'm missing. I moved from Salt Lake to Ogden and knowing this dog park was here was important to me before my move. Of course when I got here my dog and I packed up for the park the first weekend of Nov only to find it locked up. I'm wondering if it'll be the same situation next winter. What if the dog park were to be run by a comitee of volunteers who take care of all the needs? I know that's not the standard for Utah dog parks, but plenty of other places operate in such a manner (for example Ossining Dog Park in Ossining NY http://www.ossiningdogpark.com/).
and this is the best time for them to be out running. Too bad it's closed during the winter. I would think that owners could make that decision for their own dogs. If your fur baby can't be outside in the cold weather, don't take them. We were just in St. George for Christmas, and took our girls to their dog park 4 days in a row. They loved it and played so well with the other dogs (large or small). I was excited to see that there was a park in our area, only to find that they can't go until March.
Great park with a great view. People and dogs are very friendly. This park is very popular and can become crowded in the evening with 40 in attendence dogs in attendance. But it's fun to watch.
If you are new to dog parks, the best time to introduce you dog is earlier in the evening or during the day when fewer dogs are in attendence. If there are several dogs there you can always ask for advice and how best to introduce your dog. There is no seperate area for smaller dogs. But that has not stopped several small dog owners and small dogs can do very well playing with their larger cousins.
Unfortunetely South Ogden City Management gives the impression of not being dog friendly and the park will be closed from 1 November 2008 until 1 March 2009.
