I bring my dog to the large dog side of this park at least 2-3 times per week. There is small side for dogs under 30 lbs.She absolutely loves it! I find the majority of dog owners at the park are extremely attentive and friendly. From time to time a dog will get aggressive but almost always the owner is right there to manage their pet...often removing them from the park. Most people pick up waste and the park provides ample plastic bags/trash receptacles. The park is closed every Monday for cleaning. Grass is limited due to drought and dog play. I believe they are going to close park for a while when new park in area opens to replant grass etc.
A few things...sometimes can't park in main area...but always able to park on street and short walk inside.
Water fountain leaks on big dog side...my dog rolls in water every time...hope they fix during period when park is closed.
CALL Hotline if it's been raining to confirm that open. They will shut down if park muddy.
I posted review because I saw sone very neg reviews...I've been to number of other dog parks..and hands down this is the nicest one. I am so thankful to live near this park...and pleased that city governments/park facilities are investing some of our tax dollars in these type of parks... Great for community and our pets!!!
I went with my friendly dog and it is a beautiful Dog Park! HOWEVER! The residents of the area at the Dog Park are rude, unfriendly, Posers that think because they are affluent that everyone should care about what they think. They did not speak or interact with the other dog owners AND there were people there that allowed their dangerous dogs to fight and bite the smaller dogs and large puppies there! I WILL NOT BE BACK TO WAGGIN TAILS! The city probably spent at least $500K on that dog park and the large dog area is half the size of Mockingbird Dog Park--not a good place for many large dogs! That and the other dog owners DON'T PICK UP their dogs potentially PARVO filled dog poop!
No Grass, lots of Poop, Unfriendly people, Vicious dogs-- NOT FOR US!!!
Huck and I visited this park on a Sunday afternoon. The people were all very nice and were paying close attention to their pets. The park appeared to be fairly clean. The lack of grass was a concern to me but with the drought and all the shade that can't be helped. It was nice to see all the rock areas where the dogs could climb or jump and the humans could sit. Had a great time and I am sure we will be back.
Right now, Dallas is in a severe drought and the grass has stopped growing. Although things would be better if we had more grass on the large dog side. Many owners regularly pick up the poop of other dogs to help keep this park clean. It's too bad that sometimes, everything isn't perfect.
Nice park in a good neighborhood. The people are nice and the dogs are wonderful (most of the time).
This used to be such a nice park. Now, the grass is gone and it's covered in un-picked up poop. It's turned into such a nasty park. I vowed 3 months ago to never return, and I haven't.
One of the nicest dog parks I've seen!
I've lived near enough to the Plano dog park and the White Rock Lake dog parks and am lucky enough to now live really close to the one on Keller Springs. It's by far the best of those I've tried in the area including the Addison one and the one near downtown. It's reasonably clean, there are always going to be owners who either don't see the dog's mess, don't think they have to clean it up, or just don't care about it. There is a bit of a lack of parking though so be prepared to park on the street, especially on weekends or 6 PM on week days. I've only used the big dog side of the park and there is plenty of shade and seating and there is a water fountain, but it;s on the opposite side of the park from the seating. For the most part, people seem nice and have only had my dog attacked once last night and I was able to pull that dog off mine and separate them with no problems. I should note that my dog never approaches other dog fights or gets into fights on her own and for the most part stays by me with brief forays with other dogs to other parts of the park.
This is pretty much what a dog park should be, except for the parking and the random fake fire hydrant in the middle of the park I've heard a dog ran into it and broke his leg...
Took my first trip to a dog park, happened to be Wagging Tail. Best decision I've made in a while. Had a great time meeting other dog lovers and meeting everyone's pooches. My dog ran and played for hours on end. What a great day at the dog park. :)
First let me say the park has great owners and pups, spaced well and clean. But... It has now been closed for going on 10 days due to the poor condition of the large dog park. I would love to take my small ones there, but one badly designed area has closed everything.
Am I over reacting when a park still is closed for standing water 6 days after rain? Plus it rained yesterday and I assume my pups may play there sometime near valentines day :(
The park itself is great! My dog was having a blast until a large black woman driving a gold minivan showed up with 7 dogs! (There is a 3 dog per person limit at this park) This woman is an absolute menace!!!!!!! 3 of her dogs were extremely aggressive to the other dogs that were already at the park and happily playing together. One dog in particular was aggressive with several people including myself and charged two other people in the park. She was repeatedly asked to get control of her dogs and she did absolutely nothing! She even got confrontational with other owners and threatened me when I told her I was calling the police because her dogs were attacking other dogs! ( I was not the only person who called the cops on her). Two police officers and an animal control officer arrived to take charge of the situation but by that time the only dogs left in the park were hers. Only myself and one other owner stuck around to make a statement to the police. Not only does she have 3 aggressive dogs but her dogs were pooping and she did not clean up after them at all. In fact, she sat on the retaining wall and allowed her dogs to poop everywhere until the police showed up. Then she suddenly started acting like she was watching her dogs. I find it very sad that everyone in the park ended up leaving due to her and her dogs. According to other owners that were in the park at the time of this incident this is not the first time owners and their dogs have had trouble with this woman and her dogs. Please watch out for this woman and her aggressive dogs! I strongly encourage anyone who sees her to call the cops upon the first sign of trouble. She usually shows up about 12pm every weekday! Her 3 most aggressive dogs are a white pit bull, a rottweiler and a large grayish mixed breed. Please watch out for these dogs and their lazy, irresponsible owner!!
Friendly pets and owners. Loads of space!
This is a great dog park, the people here seem to be more on top of their dogs behavior as far as dogs getting grouchy or mean to other dogs. There is a creek by the small dog park that is a lot of fun to take your dog to. However Rattle snakes have been spotted in the creek. BE CAREFUL.
New, clean, *tons* of shade, used by lots of people (so lots of dogs).
What a wonderful dog park. My entire family (who are dog lovers) love to take our beloved animals to the park. They socialize and meet new friends as well as we do too! Thank you to all who visualized this wonderful haven for our best friends!
Me and my dogs and boyfriend have tried to go to this dog park several times and it is NEVER open. I don't understand this???? I call the hot line and it explains nothing really. We are going to try to go one more time today, and if it's not open we are GIVING UP!!!! We will go out of our way to go to a park further away, it's worth it for my puppies.
The only thing they could do to make it better would be to have a swimming pool. And let the sod take hold so it doesn't get so muddy.
The park has been closed because they are trying to fix the grass and grounds that were torn up around the time of opening. The grand opening took place before the park really was ready to open and the grass had just been laid. The great amount of traffic that followed made a mess. They supposedly want to get the ground really ready so that there isn't a continual mess to follow. It should be open soon!
Website for the park is www.waggingtaildogpark.org
According to the city: Open / Close schedule:
The Wagging Tail dog park will be closed until further notice due to inclement weather, and grounds recovery.
We apologize for any inconvenience.
This is a beautiful dog park....when it's open..which isn't very often. What's going on?
Kindly post the hours.
EDITOR COMMENT: The City of Dallas operates this dog park; the dog park is open 7 days a week according to them. They have a hotline at 214.670.1589 for the dog park.
I, too, have been wondering why it is closed. Sunny or not, the gates are chained closed. It's pretty frustrating. I wouldn't check it out unless you have time to drive to a backup park.
I have spent some time trying to find out why this park is closed when it is supposed to be open..I have been told it was closed due to inclement weather...almost fell offf chair sun is shining, its 26..dogs have fur coats..not a happy camper..dp is great close to my home if it was open earlier this week..dog and I went on to Plano DP which posts closings days etc...if they have to do something during that time they work around the dogs..I have been going ther for 9 months..apparently Dallas does not feel the need to accommadate their taxpayor of which I am one
