Not best dog run on the south shore but not the worst.
Things it has going for it:
- Poop bags provided
- Plenty of parking
- Has water available
- Has 2 separate runs (big and small dog runs)
Things it has against it:
- Bathrooms (for humans) near parking lot aren't always open
- No shade
- Limited seating in large dog area and no seating in small dog area
- Dirt ground cover
Not a bad run on the south shore, but there are better nearby (Oyster Bay Dog Park). Does are not allowed in this park except the dog run and its parking lot. Must be a town of Babylon resident to enter park in the summer.
It was great for my little maltese to run around. However, do they spray something on the grass, like maybe insecticide or fertilizer? My dog seemed to have an allergic reaction. His eyes got all red. I will take him one more time and see if there is the same reaction. I would love to take him frequently.
I have been enjoying this park with my 1 year old (22 lb spaniel mix) since april, with nothing but good experiences. But today May 31st), we were alone, when 2 young women brought their dog in. My dog was eagerly awaiting him, with his doggy smile and wagging tail.
As soon as the gate opened this dog attacked my dog, the owners did nothing but scream, as he had my dog downb and was bitting him. I am a 63 year old woman but grabbed their dog by his hind leg and pulled him off without him biting me. I yelled at them to leash their dog, which they did. Lucky, I was right there, and my dog was not badly hurt.
I will never go to a dog park again, and submit my dog or myself to the stupidity of people who bring untrustworthy dogs into the park & hope for the best.
I would gladly pay an admission charge for an attended dog park, people might think twice about bringing a fighting dog to the park if they might be held responsible.
Thanks for letting me blow off some steam,
Paulys Mom
As a new resident on Long Island, I was just wondering if it is required to have your dog license with you when you are at Tanner Park with your dog?
EDITORS COMMENT: We cannot find the rules online for this park, usually they are posted at the entrance. Almost every dog park we know of requires dogs to be licensed and to be current on all their vaccinations.
NOT SURE IF ANYONE FOLLOWS UP ON THIS AT ALL. BUT TODAY MARCH 9TH AROUND 5PM. I HAD BROUGHT MY DOG TO THE BLYDENBURGH PARK. HE WAS ATTACKED BY ANOTHER DOG. THIS DOG BIT MY DOG TWICE. ONE CAUSING SEVERE BLEEDING TO HIS STOMACH. AND THE OTHER BITE CAUSED A RUPTURE FOR HIS INTESTINES TO COME OUT OF HIS ABDOMINAL WALL. OTHER DOGS WERE ALSO CHARGING AT HIM. IT WAS THEN FINALLY AFTER GETTING ALL THE DOGS OFF MY DOG. I SAW IN THE CORNER OF MY EYE THE OWNER FINALLY COMING TO GRAB HIS DOG AND THEN DRIVE OFF. I DIDNT HAVE TIME TO GET A GOOD LOOK AT HIM OR HIS CAR. I WAS TOO FOCUSED ON MY DOG. IF ANYONE WAS THERE AT THE PARK TODAY. AND SAW THIS INCIDENT. PLEASE RESPOND OR EMAIL ME AT (SSJRECCA500@YAHOO.COM) I THANK THE PEOPLE THAT DID HELP TO BRING A RAG AND BLANKET FOR MY DOG TO STOP THE BLEEDING. I ENDED UP BRINGING MY DOG TO THE CLOSEST VET IS 601 VETERANS HWY IN HAUPPAUGE. (RIGHT BY 5 GUYS ONE BURGER) THEY WERE ABLE TO STITCH HIM UP. AND HOPEFULLY HE WILL BE OK. HE WILL BE SPENDING THE NIGHT THERE ON ANTIBIOTICS.
I KNOW IF MY DOG BIT ANOTHER DOG IN ANY PARK. I WOULD NEVER THINK ABOUT JUST LEAVING. I DON'T WANT ANYTHING LIKE THIS TO HAPPEN TO YOUR DOG. AND ESPECIALLY HAVING THIS GUY BRING HIS DOG TO ANY DOG PARK. IT ISN'T SAFE. AND OWNERS SHOULD BEWARE!!!!!
The parking lot has a history of break-ins. Leave nothing of any value in your vehicle.
I take my dog there everyday. It is a great place. Only wished that every body picked up there poop. Mostly well behaved dogs there. Try it you will love it.
My dogs took us here today and we all had a great time. The big dogs are separated from the little dogs and everyone there had well behaved dogs. There are bathrooms nearby but I would suggest you bring your own water and "doggie bags". See ya there!
This is such a great idea! I will definely bring my 2 small dogs down!
