Could be better

This weekend I decided to get to a few dog parks on Long Island....this park being one of them.

Things it has going to for it:

- Has a water spigot for dogs (off in winter)
- Parking only 100 feet away
- Some big shade trees
- Has ample seating (picnic tables, plastic outdoor chairs owner's leave)
- restrooms a little walk away
- has poop bags

Things it has going against it:

- It is mostly wood chips. Has to be a mud pit after a heavy rain.
- Not every owner picks up after their dogs.
- No separate large dog/ small dog area.
- No exactly the cleanest dog park I have been to.

The town of North Hempstead or Nassau County need to invest more money in this dog run. It gets a lot of use and it shows.

Too much waste!

I visited this park on a Sunday, there were lots of dogs there all having a great time but the dog waste pails were so full and overflowing and well stocked with disgusting flys! We could not stay long because of the smell!

Mixed Feelings

This is the dog park closest to our house, but the few times I went there I did not like that a lot of the owners of bigger dogs were not paying attention to them. They were rough-housing with my little dog, who can absolutely hold his own, but the whole atmosphere and culture was off. It felt as though owners were there to socialize while their dogs did SOMETHING, rather than being there for the dogs. The area itself is nice; it has a mulch floor and plenty of seating. They provide a hose for fresh water, and poopy bags. The unfortunate part is that there is no separate area for the little dogs, so for my 8 pound nugget, I head to other parks.
