This run almost has it all

Large dog run that almost has it all.

Things it has going for it:

- Plenty of parking
- Plenty of seating for owners
- Safe area/park
- Has both a large & small dog runs
- Plenty of room for dogs to really run
- Dog fountains
- Bathrooms for humans (except in winter)
- Plenty of shade
- Poop bags provided

Things it has against it:

- No canopies (in case it starts to rain)
- Ground cover is half wood chips and half dirt (can see it being muddy after a good rain)
- Have to pay to get into park (except winter)

I have been to this park a few times and I have to say this dog park has a lot going for it. It has a large area for large dogs and a lot smaller area for small dogs. Both runs have both an open area and and area with trees. There are even some trails in the wooded section. Overall this is one of the better parks on Long Island.

I'm sad to hear of so many attacks at the dog park. Obviously if your dog is aggressive you should not bring them there. All dog owners should always carry a basic first aid kit with them. Always keep an air horn with you at the dog park. One long blast of that will usually send all dogs scurrying. I do not recommend bringing food/treats as it can quickly start a fight. Before you enter a dog park you, the owner, must first assess the mentality of the pack in the dog park. The only way dogs can communicate is with body language and energy. If you cannot accurately read and identify a dog's body language and energy it would be irresponsible of you as the owner to enter the dog park with your faithful best friend. We have to set the dogs up to succeed, not to fail.

Great park and fairly well maintained by the county. A watering station, multiple trash receptacles and several bag dispensers make this a very convenient place to bring the dogs.

The fenced in area has a small and large dog area, each with a nice size wooded area included. For water dogs, there is a nice lake about a 5 minute walk from the dog park.

As was mentioned in prior posts, there are a few owners who bring dogs that just don't belong. I think this is more a function of size than a meeting place for aggressive dogs and careless owners. This is a big park and is sometimes visited by over 50 dogs depending on the day of the week and weather. For the most part though, the owner self police and have asked owners of aggressive dogs to vacate or leash their dogs.

It is my 3 flat-coats' favorite dog park and they have gotten to know many of the regulars. We go there at least once a week and often 3-4 times per week.

Best dog park going! Fresh water and pretty much well maintained.

owners not supervising or intervening their gog's behavior

I used to take my dog there but when he was just 4-5 months old, a black lab mix starting mounting him. He was terrified and starting trying to run away screaming. which of course, set off a pack of dogs to start attacking him. meanwhile, the owner(if there was one) never came and stopped his dog or intervened in any manner. I still don't know who it was. It took all i had in me to keep my husband from just picking up the lab and just throwing him over the fence out of the park. He would have done that to the owner but since he either didn't care or was too busy chit chatting with the other owners who weren't watching their dogs either, we just pulled all the dogs off of our puppy and left. i doubt that i will ever return to that park b/c of the mentality of most(not all) of the owners. How irresponsible. This attack has had lasting impressions on my dog that hopefully he will overcome. The evil side of me really wishes my husband had found the owner and "educated" him just a bit. FYI* since taking my dog to training classes, i have been educated that most dog parks have unbalanced dogs so i have since avoided them. they also (except for the one in Middle Island)don't even verify inoculations. Good luck.

I love this park! More importantly my dog loves this park. There is plenty of space and there is always someone for him to play with I love the fact that a short walk down the path there is access to the pond. This park has it all. Unlike west hills dog park, there are plenty of spots to find shade on a hot day. There is a small dog park area as well that is very large . The only complaints I have about the park is that my dog has had ticks on him after visiting even with frontline on and a topical spray. However there are wooded areas and I guess you can't help that. They need to put down mulch because currently it is all dirt, lastly they need to put the poop bags back I pay 16k in taxes and 10 dollars to enter the park ( without a green key) I think they can afford supplying a few bags to ensure the park stays poop free. My last complaint is about irresponsible dog owners. 1. If your dog is aggressive.....LEAVE!!! If you think telling them " be good" is going to work, it won't just leave so that nobody gets hurt or traumatized 2. I have 4 dogs one big guy and 3 toy breads I would never in my wildest dreams think of bringing my small dogs into the big dog park that is just stupidity a large dog can accidentally hurt a little dog not to mention there are some larger dogs that will see a small dog as "prey" don't be stupid use the designated area for your smaller dog. Overall this is a fantastic park to take your best friend enjoy

Hi, Similar incident happened this past Sunday. The dog actually bit a lady though (broke the skin and she was bleeding). Overall, I love Blydenburgh park but you are right...no one should have left. I would recommend you try and put up a posting at the park on the type of dog or something so you if nothing that person doesn't come back and hurt another dog.

BLYDENBURGH DOG PARK!!!!!! PLEASE HELP***

NOT SURE IF ANYONE FOLLOWS UP ON THIS AT ALL. BUT TODAY MARCH 9TH AROUND 5PM. I HAD BROUGHT MY DOG TO THE PARK. HE WAS ATTACKED ABOUT ANOTHER DOG. THIS DOG BIT MY DOG TWICE. ONE CAUSING SEVERE BLEEDING TO HIS STOMACH. AND THE OTHER BITE CAUSED A RUPTURE FOR HIS INTESTINES TO COME OUT OF HIS ABDOMINAL WALL. I DIDNT KNOW WAT TO DO.WAT I FOUND WEIRD WAS AFTER MY DOG WAS BEING ATTACKED. OTHER DOGS WERE ALSO CHARGING AT HIM. IT WAS THEN FINALLY AFTER GETTING ALL THE DOGS OFF MY DOG. AND HAD THEN I FOCUSED ON HIS WOUNDS. I SAW IN THE CORNER OF MY EYE THE OWNER FINALLY COMING TO GRAB HIS DOG. AND THEN DRIVE OFF. I DIDNT HAVE TIME TO GET A GOOD LOOK AT HIM OR HIS CAR. I WAS TOO FOCUSED ON MY DOG. IF ANYONE WAS THERE AT THE PARK TODAY. AND SAW THIS INCIDENT. PLEASE RESPOND OR EMAIL ME AT ([email protected]) I THANK THE PEOPLE THAT DID HELP TO BRING A RAG AND BLANKET FOR MY DOG TO STOP THE BLEEDING. I ENDED UP BRINGING MY DOG TO THE CLOSEST VET IS 601 VETERANS HWY IN HAUPPAUGE. (RIGHT BY 5 GUYS ONE BURGER) THEY WERE ABLE TO STITCH HIM UP. AND HOPEFULLY HE WILL BE OK. HE WILL BE SPENDING THE NIGHT THERE ON ANTIBIOTICS.

PLEASE IF ANYONE HAS ANY INFORMATION. PLEASE GET BACK TO ME ASAP.

THANK U AGAIN FOR ALL UR SUPPORT. ITS NOT RIGHT WITH THIS GUY RUNNING OFF LIKE THAT. ANY SANE PERSON WOULD TRY AND LEAST HELP OUT OR HAVE A HEART TO DO SOMETHING. I KNOW IF MY DOG BIT ANOTHER DOG IN ANY PARK. I WOULD NEVER THINK ABOUT JUST LEAVING. AS THE OTHER DOG IS SUFFERING IN PAIN BECAUSE OF MY DOG. I DON'T WANT ANYTHING LIKE THIS TO HAPPEN TO YOUR DOG. AND ESPECIALLY HAVING THIS GUY BRING HIS DOG TO ANY DOG PARK. IT ISN'T SAFE. AND OWNERS SHOULD BEWARE!!!!!
