Came here last night, and was really pleased with the park.
Pros:
Bright lights - yay! It's clean, nicely decorated, has some equipment that dogs can play with (not really equipments but oh well), grass, a lot of place to sit, even has picnic tables, a community pooper-scooper (which is weird but it's great if you have to use it to pick other dog's poop up without having to touch shit besides your own dog's), friendly, powerful water fountain to fill your bucket up FAST, a gazebo-like covering, separate small dog section, spacious.
Cons:
I'm not sure there are any... yet. I've only been here once.
A lot of parks that I've gone to doesn't have lights, or the lights are too dim. This park has really good lights, so I'm glad about that. We used to go to Desert Breeze park, but now I think we will come here instead because everyone plays so nice and it's a very nice park. It's just a little out of our way, but it's by far the better park we've gone to.
I absolutely love this park when I lived here - One big tip to everyone is to check the sunset time because everyone seems to leave around then which lets you have the whole park to yourself!
This park is supposed to separate small dogs from the larger ones but in the past week or so, people have brought their Pit Bull (with a muzzle) and two adult black labs. This creates stress for the little dogs and when the large dogs from the other side of the fence start barking it's mayhem. In all, you can't trust that your small dog is protected.
Park is closed now
EDITOR COMMENT: We heard it is not closed but rather relocated to the north part of the park.
This is my favorite park in town. There are 2 dog parks at sunset park. The nice one is the section on the corner of warm springs and eastern. The people are always nice. The small dog area is great it says 35lbs and under. The fence is nice, as I have two tiny dogs. The is one of the only parks where my tiny dogs can't squeeze under the fence or through the gate.
Dog park is separated into 2 parts. The "small" dog area says "no dogs over 40 lbs." I didn't know 40 lbs was considered "small."
Anyways, the grass isn't very pretty, but at least it's not gravel. Unlike most parks with plastic bag, there's only a shovel, so I guess a lot of owners don't want to use it, so there's some dog feces around. But always full of dogs, so very good place to go to socialize your dogs.
It's laid out pretty nice, with small and large dog areas. Boulders, trees and benches make it look nice. The only problem is that the most popular small dog area is almost always too crowded, sometimes with up to 30 dogs in the smaller small dog area. When I figure it out I'll add Southern Highlands Dog Park at Cactus and Jones which is pretty nice with 3 small fenced areas for different sized dogs.
EDITOR COMMENT: The Southern Highlands dog park has been added to the map.
This is a great park. Has water available, all grassy/desert areas. Owners are usually very friendly. There has been some dogs that bullies other dogs, but it's all in good play.
The only negative thing is it's a bit on the smallish side for the small dog park, the large dog area is huge. The small dog area really should have more area for the dogs to run...instead the area is peppered with trees, benches, lamp post, etc..while it's more open for the large dog area.
Occasionally, it can get a little crowded. If it does, you can just take your dog on a leash and walk around the park with the swans, ducks, the lake etc.
enter at blue thumbnail and drive thru large parking lot and gravel lot, park is on your left at end of gravel lot
Nice park separate small dog and big dog area nice dogs and people for the most part.
