great park

The first time I took my 3 little ones here they loved it.Been going here since the end of March 2012 and never experiened a problem really.Sometimes there is some big dogs in the small dog area and at first I was worried until I realized that some of them are old or handicapped. They are never a problem with my little ones and they stay pretty much to themselves. As for the poop problem ,there really isn't much of one at all.Sure, with the hills it has and taking more than one dog one might miss a little pile or two.But it isn't out of control. When I first enter the park the first thing I do is grab 6 or 7 bags.Occasionally as I walk my dogs I will pick poop up even if it isn't from my dogs and I have seen others do the same.People are generally friendly and nice. Many older people take their dogs to this park and I imagine it is hard for Mik's owner to pick up poop since she uses a walker.Mik is her pug that is blind in one eye and diabetic.I do not mind cleaning the poop of owners dog like Mik and I seen others picking up other dog poop as well.My only compliant about this park is I wish there was more areas with shade.

large dogs

I totally get your issue. I am large dog owner, but I know that a large dog can accidentally injure a smaller dog; however, if the large dog is infirm or senior, it could potentially be unsafe for this dog to be in the large dog run areas and that is why you might see the larger dogs there. I recommend calling animal control regularly until they respond.

Park Hours

This park is not open 24/7...wouldn't that be nice though? There are park rules city wide. I believe it is a safety thing. There are great paved trails in Summerlin you can take if feel brave enough to walk alone with your dog.

I love this park. There are plenty of positives. The size of the run, the location of parking (you can watch your vehicle) and most of the routine visitors of the park. I recommend the mornings whole heartedly. The people are very nice and overall the dogs display better social skills. The evening people crowd is an interesting balance from extremely warm and friendly to exclusively controlling with dog temperments running the full spectrum too. If you choose to introduce yourself to the park in the late summer evenings, be prepared for an interesting adjustment period.

Hours?

Does anyone know if this park is open 24/7? I work at 4am so would need to know if I could take my dog around 2am.

Small Dogs vs Large Dogs and Enforcement

We try to take our small dog just about every morning. Too often, there are many large dogs on the small dog side. I wish the Park Marshall could make an appearance randomly, to let people know that the signs do mean something. Our dog loves to run in this park, but is a lot of the time intimidated by the large dogs not being where they are suppose to be.

Don't your bring your big dogs in the small dog area

This is a good park overall. It's nice for walking. The problem is(this is prevalent for all the dog parks) the people who own big dogs take them in the small dog area. They think, it's okay bec. they are"so nice & friendly". People, have consideration, there is an area designated for your large dogs! Read the signs.

Won't go here again

I decided to try this park instead of my usual Barkin' Basin Park since it has evening lighting which I thought would be nice later in the summer when it's too hot to go out during the day. We came late Sunday afternoon. There were lots of people there. Didn't like how the seating and water fountain are right up front where practically EVERYONE was congregated. Getting in and wading through all the dogs was a little chaotic, especially when owners weren't doing anything to control aggressive barking dogs. This could be scary for dogs new to dog parks or submissive dogs which mine is. At least at Barkin' Basin Park, seating is in the middle so you're usually able to get inside before other dogs get close to you. Immediately, a young pit pull started bullying and rolling my submissive puppy. No owner stepped up to stop him. We walked further into the park to get away from him. When you do so, you'll find lots of poop so be careful where you step. And it wasn't one or two piles, it's everywhere around the perimeter near the fencing. The park wasn't as big as I'd expected. I was really disappointed and won't go there again.

My Second Home

I have been going to this park (Large dog side) 5-6 days a week for the last 2 years. The lighting, doggie bags, water fountains, close parking and restrooms across the parking lot, are a definite plus. Most of the dog owners are responsible about picking up waste and are knowledgeable about dog behavior. There was a comment here about a lady who has her kid do 'community service' doing poo patrol, and I am assuming that it is me. My son comes 1-2 Sundays a month with a pooper scooper and cleans the park.

My Ridgeback, and I have made many dog and human friendships at this park that are very special to us. The regulars like to bring chairs, life stories and advice (dog and human), and doggie birthday celebrations, to the park. It can be a very relaxing - and often hilarious! - time. It is nice to be able to go to a place outside of work and home with your dog and be so comfortable.

Don't get me wrong, problems and dog issues do arise. Everyone at the park tries to realize dog differences, but we all also discourage non-provoked, aggressive behavior, excessive dominance problems, and other large dog park hazards, such as: food and small children, and try to resolve these issues in an adult manner. Owners that do not want to acknowledge these behaviors and try to correct them, are not always well recieved at the park.

The people and dogs who frequent this park cherish it and try to remind everyone of the guidelines of enjoying a safe and healthy DOG (NOT family or child, or picnic or baseball) park experience.

Favorite Dog-park in Las Vegas

I take my dog Simon 4 or 5 times a week to this park, always in the Big Dogs section. We go around the same time of day and there are a LOT of regulars at this park. Most of the regulars here also frequent Woofter. (But K-Z wins during the summer due to poor lighting at Woofter.)

The regulars are very conscientious about keeping the poo cleaned up--pick up their own or someone else's if they can't find their own. Of course, that isn't to say that everybody catches every single poo, but to balance that, I know one lady who has her kid do 'community service' when he gets in trouble by going on doggy doodie duty at this park. :)

Many of the regulars sit along the top of the hill during the warmer months just in the grass or on fold-away chairs where they can see the whole park and pop up whenever doodie-duty or discipline is in order.

The regular dogs here have a very balanced and easy-going attitude as a whole and generally welcome new dogs into the fold easily when the dogs are balanced and well-behaved.

Occasionally there will be a new face with a dog that isn't so nice, and sometimes, with time and patience they will persevere and integrate into the group. Other times, they don't come back after the first night. Either way, it keeps the general atmosphere relaxed and healthy for the dogs.

Reading over it, I guess it sounds a little 'cliquey', but in truth, it's really nice to have a place to come where so many of the people share an interest in having a park where the dogs can come play safely.

Another nice thing about this park is that the parking is all right along the fence (except on the rare occasions when there is a soccer or lacrosse tournament) so you can see your car, and the parking area and park are both very well-lit. This is especially reassuring with the rash of purse-thievery that has been going around the area dogparks in recent months.

Also, oddly the site doesn't list restrooms, but the park does in fact have restrooms just across the parking area from the off-leash area. They've been relatively clean the few times I've been in there.

Not bad, not great

The areas are pretty good size. On weekends there are quite a few people and dogs there, but the areas are big enough to handle it. Owners are friendly and most the dogs are well behaved. I like how there is a hill running a long the areas, makes for different terrain instead of plain flat area. There is always quite a bit of poop here so you need to watch your step. I see some owners picking up their dogs poop and other don't. Sometimes you just don't see it happening. Oh well, just wear shoes you leave at porch when you get home. Over its a good park that I go to frequently. My dogs always have fun.

Deplorable!

In the small dog area, there are "squatters" who come out and set up lawn chairs. It must be their social hour. They do not watch their dogs, so no one picks up the poop. Many of them bring their kids who are running around the park screaming and yelling. I thought the area was for exercising dogs!!

This is the dog park for owners that don't want a scene, just good dogs sniffin' butt and runnin' like the wind.

This is definetly one of the best dog parks in Las Vegas. I take my dog there almost daily. The othe dogs and dog owners are always friendly. The parks have at least two water fountains and supply doggie bags. There are lots of benches to sit on, or you can walk around the park.

really great dog park!!

We just started going to this dog park, and we love it!! The dog owners  are so friendly and so are the dogs. They supply plastic bags and have water.  We usually go in the afternoon and we enjoy it every time. We like this one better than Desert Breeze.
