This is a beautiful dog park provided everyone helps keep it clean, and it is everyone's responsibility. The Park District charges $30. per year for a parking pass, which enables the holder to bring 2 dogs into the off-leash area. Clean-up bags are provided as well as trash and recycling cans. Great views of a lake outside the fenced area (5 foot high fencing); there is no pond areas within the dog park (makes for a dryer, cleaner dog). The dog off leash areas total 27 acres. There are areas of short grass about 15" high, areas of tall grass around 3 feet high, and areas that are wooded (some care is required in the wooded area to keep from tripping on small stumps/roots). It is just like walking around a regular nature area, just beautiful. Who could ask for more! The park is double gated to prevent dogs from leaving when they shouldn't, and to give new arrivals a chance to meet other dogs with a fence between them. There is also a separate fenced area for smaller/frail dogs to enjoy a romp off lead. Be warned, some small dogs are able to crawl under the entry gates.
Large adjoining parking lot and a toilet close by. There is also a walking trail close to the entrance to enjoy more of the park with your dog on lead, some of the park trail is an unpaved, grassy trail. And a State trail, consisting of crushed limestone, which allows dogs on lead, within 1/4 mile of the off-leash area. Some people have left bowls for others to use, but please bring water for your dog, as there are no water sources available.
