Great area. I've been coming to this park for years, bringing my dog and friend's dogs and have never been any serious problems with dogs. It is a very large area with lots of room to roam and run.
Owners on the other hand need to watch their pets and clean up after them. If you forget a bag, ask someone, I'm sure they'll be happy to share theirs or give you one. It's better than leaving it for someone to step in.
We'll be going for many years to come.
I have been to this park 3 or 4 times. I’ve never had an issue involving my dog, but I do wish it was fenced in completely.
I’ve seen a few issues with inattentive owners, dogs who don’t have very good “dog manners,” and maybe a little misunderstanding of the actual cause of the scuffles.
For example: a dog is being obsessive (poking at, mounting, or licking) and the other repeatedly tells the dog “no” in doggy language and the other dog doesn’t get the point, and after 10 minutes of the dog saying “I told you no” a scuffle breaks out, while it could have been prevented. If your dog is frequently a victim of attacks, you may want to assess your dog’s “doggy manners.”
All in all, I like the park, I would go there a lot more if it was completely fenced in.
This park is at 5900 28th Ave, not 5600. We went yesterday and it's a south turn off of 62. Great, fun park! We'll be back!!!
Our favorite dog park. I agree that 99% of owners are reponsible at this park. We have been visiting this park for 3 years. Some owners could do a better job of picking up after their dogs. All in all, a great park with great dogs!
We love this park because it is convenient, huge, and has a wide variety of terrain. It is a great place to socialize our dog with unique breeds of all sizes. We have been coming to this dog park for 2 months now and have only had positive experiences. It is FREE, so nothing beats that! Plus you get to wave to passengers in the planes overhead that are landing and taking off! 2 paws up!
This is the most untrue statement I've ever read, I've been going to the Airport dog park on a nearly daily basis for the last 10 years, I've only seen one dog fight there in all that time. If you had problems at this place it was probably your fault. 99% of the people that use this park are responsible dog owners and all work to keep it safe and clean.
irresponsable dog owners galore
i will never go back to this dog park !!!! my dog has been attacked multiple times at this dog park . today my dog was attacked for the last time. and to top it off there is not much animal control can do because its under federal jurisdiction . in my opinion this place is a vary unsafe place for you're dogs to go. i have never seen so many inattentive , and irresponsable dog owners in one place . never had any dog problems at any outer dog parks . so if you want to risk the chance of dog bites with no means of retribution come here, if not save up 50 bucks and go to a "real" city dog park . this place is pure chaos and should be closed.
This is not an official dog park. It's owned by the Metropolitan Airport Commission, who considers it public access property. They allow off-leash dogs, and in return, owners do their part to keep the property clean and incidents and trouble to a minimum. See more information at www.airportdogpark.com, including a map showing which areas are not fenced in.
My dog loves this park. We've had nothing but positive experiences here. It's not all the way fenced in, but that hasn't been a problem. The park is big enough to be able to keep dogs away from the street. It's so close to the airport that planes take off and land right above your head! Bring a towel for fido, because there are always puddles. Also there are no trash cans so poop has to come home in the car.
