I don't mind the fee... the forest preserve provides doggie bags for picking up waste.. special containers to collect waste.. and last summer... it was noted that there were areas where the little dogs could actually get out of the little dog area... the forest preserve closed the park for a day and reinforced the smaller dog area with new fencing with smaller holes all the way around the entire small dog area and around the trees within the area. Kudos to the Forest Preserve.. thanks for a great dog park.
This is a great dog park for little dogs especially because there is a separate region for them to run. Many times we'll see the same dogs and there owners and has provide a great, fun routine for both of us. There is great parking and a picnic area with a bike path next to it. The larger dog area is great too. Many chihuahua's (like mine) can be seen 6-7:30 weekdays and also saturday mornings! It's great!! Come check it out!
I find it a little strange that there is a fee for usage of a dog park. If everyone picks up the poop, why should there be a fee to do park maintenance? Isn't the park under the auspices of the forest preserve?
AN ANSWER: Many dog parks have usage fees and this dog park is run by the Forest Preserve. There are several reasons for a fee - one it provides a person to check the dog to ensure they have their shots and hopefully get better quality dogs at the dog park. It can also be a fee to help maintain or sometimes improve a dog park. If you have an issue with this fee you should contact the Forest Preserve and see how they specifically use this fee.
