The Park that never is...
1

Instead of the simple elegant solution to the flooding ( four foot sub-fence with gates around the flooding area, no water gates open, flooding gates closed, 70% of park open) the people who run the park seem to be either doing nothing or searching for a more complicated and complex solution. Given the weather at this time of year expect it to be closed until mid November.

This park is ridiculous. It's never open! It's a nice park, when it's actually open... Pathetic...

Flooded...not a good response from Park President
2

I love this park, but having it closed for months-even weeks is unacceptable, particulary with no explaination. Does the city of Pompano not own any pumps?
The small dog park side is NOT flooded, yet still closed.
The park hotline gives you no info or time frame to reopen and emails from Brian in response to the question : when will the park reopen have been abrupt, to say the least. I emailed and asked him if it was open and got the response : NO. That's it.
I would love to give this park 4 star (5 if it had a few more trees for shade). Great park, not so great management communication.
That being said, my puppy misseshis run! Found a good park called Oakland Bark Park on NW 38th in Oakland Park. A little further, but OPEN!!

Flooded again.

This weeks rains once again flooded the big dog section so "President of the Dog Park" (aka Brian) has closed the entire park. Last year it took months for it to drain and that happened at the end of rainy season, so this might go on until the Fall

Canine Corner

hello everyone. well to touch on a few things. First, the signs for the toddlers, infant and strollers is in the large section. People don't read the signs. I can't tell you how many times I have to tell people that they have to have their county rabies tag on their dogs or no smoking or no leashes while in the park. So, they don't read. If you are having issues in the park, you have a couple of options. you can call animal control, or you can call BSO. they both will respond to you. we want you to have an enjoyable time with your dog. Unfortunately, not everyone thinks that safety for the little people. If someone approaches you or your dog and does harm to your dog like grabbing him by the collar and throwing him, call BSO...

Dog park open again and getting better than when it first opened

Well, when I wrote my first review, I was a bit overtaken by the rules, but now they need to be tweeked. The toy rule has been broken and all the dogs are enjoying someones generosity of old tennis balls. So, that is really working out. Now we really need to address the issue of people bring in infants and small children. I know that I have stated this before, but recently we had a major issue.
I have a large dog. The dog loves children, but doesn't know that knocking them over and licking them as they are kicking and crying, is wrong. My dog isn't the only one with the child addiction. Apparently, they taste good because most of the dogs lick and chase them.
Well, this can be a bit dangerous, for both parties involved. Children get knocked down and then the parents think it is appropriate to either fight with the owner or kick the dog. One woman threatened to shoot my dog. Now this wouldn't work out for both parties.
My dog been picked up and tossed by the collar a lot and I am really sick of it.
The rule clearly states, no infants or toddlers or strollers. Why can't this be enforced or noted on a big sign going over to the large dog side on the entrance? People don't read the rules and I really don't like quoting them. It is a year later, and I am still having the same issues with people that think it is perfectly normal to let their toddler play in the large dog area and threaten the owner, if the dog chases after a child holding a bag of crackers and juice box. Most recently and really the funniest, a child wearing a Captain America costume and carrying the shield that looked like a giant frisbee to my dog. I had to call the police on that parent. I could write about some of these stories, and possibly get paid. There are some really funny ones, lots of strange ones and some really scary ones. My friends laugh and think its really funny that people think that bringing a small child with food into a dog park is normal.
So please help us out by putting a simple sign of no small children or babies in the big dog side and it must be in both Spanish and English. Thank you.

Temporary Closure

The park has flooded and then the water got contaminated with dog urine and feces. Several animals got sick fr what I was told. The park had to be closed until it has dried out and the are able to treat it To kill the bacteria then it will reopen or that is what I was told by parks and rec

Ok. So, they made improvements to the park. Put a pebble bed down for the water to drain. More water around the park for dogs to drink and planting trees for us and the dogs. Getting better pompano.

Now if they could only keep people from bringing their toddlers (which heaven help us if a dog thinks that a toddler is another dog and bites the child).... There needs to be some sort of rule enforcement. If the police need to do it or animal control, then fine. Pompano just has too many people who think that bring a small baby to the large side of the dog park is a normal and good idea. It is a dog park. Not a playground. It was meant to let your dog get exercise and socialize with other dogs after being inside all day. So, if you have a big dog that loves to push children down and lick them to death (as my dog does) then get ready to have some mom who feels that is is her right as a mother to put her child in danger. I feel really bad for those children, since they too will not understand that it is not a good idea.

What a difference a truckload of pea rock made. We went to the park today with our two Doodles. They ran, had fun and we loved the facility. The mud pit was gone, and there were so many pups in the large dog area that we stayed for almost two hours watching our furkids run and have fun....Many thanks to those that made it happen and to the City of Pompano Beach for providing such a nice facility for us to use!

Large dog area - excellent

I read the review that was dated 7/9/10 and almost didn't go to the dog park. Am I glad I did! It is beautiful and spacious and well maintained. The middle area described is a big sand pit for the dogs. And it was completely dry. I would suggest not going after a very rainy day. I hope the person that wrote that review gives it another chance. Note: closed on Tuesdays for maintenance. Enjoy!

Large Dog Area

We went to the large dog area with our two Goldendoodles this evening. The park is probably one of the nicest dog parks I have been to and I applaud everyones efforts to achieve such a beautiful facility. I MUST say however that we will NOT return and use the dog park in the future. The entire center of the large dog area was a muddy swamp. Our dogs drank some of the muddy water, one fell while running and was covered in black muck. I can't understand how the city spent a large sum of money to construct a state of the art dog park with a swamp for its landscape. Had this been during the rainy season it would have been a lake with standing water. I had to completely hose down both dogs before I considered even letting them back in my car and then they were soaking wet. Upon arriving home we had to bathe and dry both dogs before letting them in the house. I must say I was totally disapointed in the facility, and can not comprehend why the grounds could not have been properly filled, graded and landscaped prior to its opening. We waited so long for a local Dog Park only to be disapointed in its design.

Brand new bark park

Just checked out the new park today! Great open space for my pup to run; new water fountains; a pond in the enclosed area for bigger dogs. Very few benches & not much shade for us pet parents, but all in all, a nice park situated close to home.

What a dissapointment......
1

So, we waited and waited for our puppy park. Finally, it opened today. We can't bring any toys for the dogs. There is no shade, only a few benches and 1 dog water fountain. There is going to be a swamp in the middle and wait until the rainy season. Owners aren't allowed to use their cell phones. Gees, what can the dog and owner do.

As a tax payer of Pompano Beach, I am a bit ashamed that they produced something like this and agreed to all these useless rules. I feel like I was scammed. My dog really needed a place to play fetch! I think that I will continue to hang at the locals spot and risk the ticket. Thank you elected people in city hall for even selling out for the dog park.
