Nice but horrible pet owners who have no dog etiquette
1

With the good, there're are always at least a couple of problems, so here they are. The main problem with this beach is that so many dogs are wrangled into such a small section of beach, and the times are limited to just 4 hours, three days a week, so it gets overcrowded very quickly. We got there right at 5 when it opened on Sunday, and by 6 there were so many dogs running around that it made our stay so uncomfortable that we had to leave. We simply couldn't enjoy ourselves, especially when the big dogs started running around and wrestling in packs without regard as to who or what was resting in their paths.

I am going to Ft. Lauderdale even though I live further away. I had two dog run full force right into me. Never again just like a previous reviewer wrote. Overcrowded plus there are too many dang. Pet owners. Who don't have proper etiquette or manners. Otherwise it. Probably be a nicer place. They need to widen the space.

I am happy to have found this area on the net, I have not visited the doggie beach yet, but now I know where to take my 2 dogs to a place of fun in the sun and sand. Thank you for providing a little area for the dogs of this wonderful community.

This dog beach is wonderful. I wish they had more dog beaches in South Florida. My dogs had a great time playing in the water and sand. Don't forget to bring your dog bowl. I felt this beach was clean enough to swim in the water with my dogs. What a great service. Thank you dboh and the City of Hollywood.

Dog Beach is a hit, but with a bit of horror

I'm new to the Hollywood area and was excited to learn that a dog-friendly beach was close by. I went to the beach last weekend with my pups (Diego, a chihuahua/pug mix, and Remington, a chihuahua/Italian greyhound). They had a great time playing in the water and with all the other dogs, big and small. There were so many different breeds on the beach that it made their playtime a real adventure. And the best thing about this beach was that there was a sand bar, which made the depth of the water close to the shore between 6 inches and a foot, with light waves that even my small dogs could use to body surf!

Another negative I'd report about this beach is that there is no water fountain (for humans or dogs) available. I brought along my own water, but the dish kept getting nocked over and spilt (and even stolen at least twice!) by bigger bullying dogs, leaving my dogs gasping for a sip in the salty air.

Also, there were no waste bags available. I took enough for myself, but I had run out by the time two big dogs left large piles of waste right near my blanket. I couldn't identify their owners, and no one around me had any extra bags, either, so I covered it with some sand and was stuck with the stink, hoping other dogs didn't track through it and spread it around before a good samaritan came along.

All in all, the Hollywood Dog Beach is a great place to spend some time on a weekend afternoon. I just wish it were open for dogs every day of the week...it'd be a great way to unwind after work, and there would surely be fewer crowds.
