I love this park! It's a 20 minute drive for me but after my dog was bitten at iron hill park recently and required stitches i will only be going here . The people are polite and take responsibility for their dogs. Yes there are a few lazy owners who just let their dogs run loose. Overall the park is clean grass is cut and water and poop bags are always available. It's worth my drive and dogs safety!

I like the dog park, the poeple are nice in Middletown and relaxed. There are some people that go to the Dog Park (Large) that do not have a clue about how to handle thier dog or why they should even own a Dog. I really like this dog park park, friendly people and dogs but on a occasion you always run across a person that is not paying attention to thier dog. I saw a incident a few weeks back where a woman had been standing on one side of the park and her dog on the other side and no even paying attention to her dog but drinking coffee. Her dog was mounting other dogs and when addressed about the subject she stated "I am not going to walk all the way over there". WOW - please leave the park - Anyway, I really enjoy going to this park but there are some people that do not have a clue on proper handling techniques for there dog in this type of scenerio.

This park is wonderful. I have a Duck Tolling Retriever - Border Collie mix and he loved the park. We went on the big dog side and he loved getting to run around. There were some great dogs and owners there when we got there. They watched the dogs well and I definitely felt comfortable.
However, around 3:15 pm a woman with more dogs than brains came to the park with her 4 poorly behaved dogs. She failed to restrain her one dog who was constantly coming at my dog to mount him. Its understandable a couple of times, but it gets old. I told her that soon my dog would bite hers if he didn't stop; she replied that it was fine if her dog was bitten. I was appalled. Just beware of her. She does not watch or attempt to control her dogs. One of her other dogs was extremely aggressive with my dog. It was malicious, not playful.
Otherwise, the experience was absolutely wonderful. Fortunately there was enough space that I could walk to the other side of the park and get away from her dysfunction.
I had forgotten my tennis ball at home, so fortunately there were some balls around for the dogs to play with.
Some of the people that go do not clean up after their dogs (the aforementioned woman being one of them). But the people that were there with me from 1:45-3 were more than compliant about cleaning up after their dogs.
I would highly recommend this park. I think it is better than both Iron Hill Park and Carousel Farms Dog Bark (only because it has real fences)

Very Cool

We drove from Newark to get away from the "Husky Mafia" at Iron Hill, and I am glad we did!! All the dogs were playful and not aggresive at all, unlike Iron Hill. It had more than enough space for every dog there. We will return again and again!!!

Really nice park for the kids and dogs. They only have 2 dog parks. Large and Small. I visited the dog park at least once or twice per week but I have stopped going due to Dog Owners not paying attention to there dogs in the large section. Its actually shameless becuase they have ruined it for everyone else. This last incidented happen when the Owner of Her Dog had been on one side of the park and she had been on the other side. Her excuse, I not going to walk that far. This is not the first time when dog owners have acted this why in the Large section. This really only happens in the Large Dog sectioned and not to put more negative sound nites but there have been attacks on the dogs (pits) in the large section. Its really disappointing, nice park, nice neighborhood, and some poeple have to ruin for the rest.

Love This Place

My dogs and I love this dog park. I have two pups. One is a Corgi-Jack Russel mix who is 6 months old and the other is a small pit mix that is 5 months old. I take both of the into the small side beings the Pit is only 28lbs. They both love it. We were up there a few days ago and my two were the only small dogs there. Then a man came with one little dog and two big dogs he was very nice and asked if he could bring his big dogs in the small dog area since he didn't want to split his dogs apart. That was fine with us. My dogs walked around the park twice and then played with his dogs and had a blast.

The park is very clean and well maintained. It still gets a little muddy but thats going to happen it's dirt and grass. Everyone we have met there have all been very friendly and nice. My Mom and aunt did have one small problem with a cocker spainal because their puppies wanted to play with it but the cocker didn't want to and the owner got a little upset and kinda yelled at my mom and aunt to get their dogs away from hers... Come on it'd a "Dog Park" you take your dog there to play with other dogs.
Anyway the park is great and we can't wait for the weather to get really nice so we can take them up there more. It's a half hour drive for us but it so worth it. My Dogs will play there til their fall off.

3 acres for a small dog park?

Actually, our five-month-old, 6-1/2 lb. small dog can - and sometimes does - run that far in the 3 acre small dog park. She does so with great joy, too. We like the size as well as we walk the perimeter for exercise. Great park! Nice dogs and nice people!

3 acreas for a small dog park? small dogs cant even run that far. 5 acres for the big dog park was amazing. Its really too big, but who's complaining. They spent some good money on this place, there's water and the grass is in great shape. The park is SO big there is bound to be poop around cause you can barely see your dog from one end to the other, but its a great place none the less.

FYI, no such thing as Edgar Price. Its approx 1/2 mile off Route 301 in the Levels Road Park. Tough to miss.

2 More benches and two bag dispensers with one trash can were added to the southern end of the park. Great idea, good job.

We have been taking our two Shibas to this most wonderful park since last summer. Spring and Fall are our favorite times and the dogs just love the freedom to run. When the trees have a chance to get a little larger the summers will be great also.We have met some really nice people and lots of adorable dogs. Can't say enough good things about this park! Thanks Middletown it's worth the drive from Bear!!

Love this park

Their is a facebook group "Levels Road Dog Park" where you can find updates on the park and any closures etc. This is very helpful for those who drive a long distance. Which I know a lot of the dog owners do :)

With the great size and open space of this park it is prefect for off leash training in a safe "Fenced" environment.

RE: Just went there for the first time

Water is turned off during winter months. Will be turned back on sometime in the Spring. Bring a metal bowl and some dogs think the plastic ones are toys. :)

RE: Is this park pretty busy

Generally Monday thru Friday during the winter months there are at least 4, sometimes 6 or 7 regulars there between noon and 3:00 or so. Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays you can count on a pretty good crowd. There is nothing to break the wind there so it usually feels much colder than it it. Dress appropriately for cold weather

Was there on Saturday with my 12-year old black lab. It was really nicely maintained and the people and dogs were friendly. The only caveat is that one should bring water with you. The water fountain there wasn't working.

Edit: It was working the other times I've gone since I first posted. Another caveat though - owners have to read the rules. The one that is often ignored (in other dog parks as well) is that you're supposed to keep your dog's leash with you (and not hang it on the entry gate). If your dog or someone else's dog gets agressive, the dogs are harder to control.

Is this park pretty busy still in the winter months? I would like to take my great dane pup there today. Am hoping there are some friends for her!

Levels Road Park

I highly recommend this park. My two girls, Maggy and Nonie love this place. But my main complaint is, a couple of times we,ve arrived only to find the gates closed and locked. There needs to be a number to call before we drive all the way from Newark and find the place closed again.

EDITOR COMMENT: Town of Middletown 378-2711 but the phone number may only work during normal business hours.

Awesome park IMO. I'm in Bear off of Howell School Road, much larger and better than Newark's Iron Hill Dog Park. I discovered it in August and try to get Zoe there every day unless raining or I am sick. I personally have not had problems with any dogs there.

My only complaint is that there are a few people that come there that do not fully understand how dogs interact with other dogs and become nervous and too protective of their dog, who then becomes nervous and apprehensive which further adds to the problem.

I would say that if you are in the area give it a try, I don't think you will be disappointed Five fenced acres for large dogs 3 for small.

PS They need more benches. :)

Muddy

Not so bad now as they have sodded around the entrances and water fountains.

Wonderful place for your pets! Thank you Middletown for such a great place.

Wonderful

We took our Jack Russell there on Saturday 03/14. There were quite a few dogs there on both sides. The dogs loved it as did their owners. All of the owners we met were responsible and friendly. It was a good time for all.
We came from Kenton because we have no where for our dog to run. I walk her 1 mile everyday. Walking her is nothing compared to the exercise she got while running non stop at the dog park.
Thank You

Great park but muddy!

As lower Delaware residents, we were happy to find a fenced in dog park south of the canal. Our first visit was 2/1/09, the first warm day after an ice storm so the entrance to both fields were very muddy. We went into the small dogs section and had a good time. Needs more benches inside the fence. Portapotties outside the fences. This park is located on Levels Rd (Rt 15) just off of 301 (Levels is called Edgar Price on the map above?) Watch for the Moon Landscaping sign which is bigger than the park sign.

Great to have this park located in the Middletown,DE area. I have heard there are plans to add an agility area.
