I found this park to be very clean with doggy bags available. The trails we followed were cement, ran along beside the water runoff pipes. I thought that was a brilliant use of the runoff for the hillside. With benches all along trails. When I tried the dirt paths, I found they ran along the steep hillside, they were narrow and it was too scary for me. Fear of heights! Large open area for socializing. Heather school is nextdoor. Thats how I found it.
This park is not safe for dogs for the following reasons:
1. There is no fencing.
2. The few trails are not maintained and are unsafe for dog owners.
3. The ground is covered in neglected shrubbery and weeds, There are fox tails, burrs and other plant material that is very hazardous for dogs.
4. The unkempt growth of shrubs and weeds is full of ticks and fleas.
5. There is no source of water.
6. There is no level area for dogs to chase, retrieve or engage in obedience training. The park is on a steep hillside.
I have incurred many vet bill for my dogs by taking them to this park. Some for fox tails, some for burs embedded between pads on the foot, and one for a cut by broken glass.
I believe that it's sad that a lovely community like San Carlos has no area where dog can be safely exercised, but If you care about your dog, I advise you to keep him or her away from this hazardous so-called dog exercise area.
