Cambria, like most places on the Central Coast of California is a VERY dog friendly town and this is demonstrated by their wonderful dog park. It is a very spacious park located at the intersection of Main Street and Santa Rosa Creek Road the East end of town. The park can be reached by car in five minutes or less from just about any place in town, and is an easy 10 minute stroll from the center of Cambria's East Village (Burton & Main Streets). Nestled between Main St. and the Santa Rosa Creek the park is surrounded by pine and oak tree covered hills with a spectacular view of the nearby mountains to the East.
The park is open from sunrise to sunset, seven days a week and there is plenty of parking in a large unpaved parking lot located conveniently next to the main gate. The park is fully ADA accessible.
The park is approximately a third of an acre in size and consists of two areas, a large one leash-free play of dogs under owners voice control, and a smaller area for dogs that require close monitoring (i.e. puppies, unaltered dogs, shy or overly agressive dogs, etc.). To keep dust to a minimum, the park grounds are usually covered with wood chips donated by local tree trimming services.
The local support group makes sure there are plenty of benches and chairs and a shady tent for owners, as well as lots of tennis balls, frisbees, poop bags, and fresh water for the dogs. The locals are friendly (though their owners can sometimes be a pain!). Generally, the busy times on week days at the park are between 7-9 am, and 3-5 pm. Word to the wise, though during sunny hours, the park is usually very comfortable if not on the warmer side, but always bring a sweater or jacket to the park, no matter what the temperature may be anywhere else in town. Cambria is a town of micro-climates, and the temperature and wind conditions can vary greatly within just a half mile distance.
Note: There is no running water at the park. Conainer water is trucked in for the dogs only.
