The O'side Dog Park

This park is shockingly small for the amount of visitors it receives. The large side has a significant slope that when wet the astro-turf turns into a slip-n-slide, and is extremely dangerous. About 2/3 of the visitors here are responsible/friendly owners. But this park is located in a very dangerous neighborhood and continually attracts the homeless and other various questionable characters. Be prepared to confront folks about their aggressive un-altered dog who lacks licensing, let alone a collar or (gasp)a name tag. Common dog diseases run rampant here. In fact, my Oceanside based vet advises her patients to stay away.

The park is operated by the Humane Society located next door. So if you do have an incident, it can be reported.

The bottom line is this:

I want so much to love this park, but it is overused and abused.

People are the cause

Totally agree, this same caddy old people bring there old, cranky dogs there and just sit around. what a waste... Less Active... please stay at home and give a chance for small active dogs play....Small Dogs would get ran over if we took our small dogs to the bigger section....Rules need to change...I wont go there any more or support Petco Foundation

Nice park but pretty small for the number of dogs. The watering area is set up like a big puddle which is fun for the dogs but, after so many dogs tracking the contents of the astro-turf into the water, my dog got terrible diarrhea after drinking it.

We take our puppy for dog beach road trip. So on the way back we take them to this park for quick run. Good size area.

Great for a Local Park

This certainly isn't a gorgeous five-star-pet-palace, but for a local dog park it fits the bill. Separate little/big dog parks and both have a double gate so you don't need to fear "Fido" getting loose. I go there almost daily and you kind of start to see the same people/dogs each day. I've only once encountered a dog that shouldn't have been there and even then the dog was removed promptly and without incident. There are definitely one or two owners that are a bit...well, nuts, actually. They are either completely over-protective of their bratty dogs or they completely ignore their fearful dogs. Again, however, these exceptions to the rule are rare and generally don't stay long. The "regulars" take very good care of their dogs and keep their eyes open for all goings-on. They aren't afraid to tell a newcomer that their dog needs to be neutered to be there and/or that "your dog just relieved themselves over there" so you can pick it up. It's a happy little extended family. I've also heard rumors that they're putting in easy turf but not sure when/if that's going to happen. It would certainly be a nice addition. I love that there are multiple "watering holes": the dog fountain up top and the dog bowls down below. There's also a porta-potty for the bi-peds and while I haven't used it myself, I've been told it's "not bad."

The park is a nice place to wear a dog out running up and down the hill. The green grass has been worn away and is mostly dirt. but my dog did not seem to mind. She had loads of fun playing with the other dogs and was a very mellow dog for the rest of the day. The big area is around a quarter acre so it should be enough for most. The donated chairs and benches add a backyard patio touch not found in most other dog parks.

This is a nice park - two separate areas, one for active dogs, and one for small or less active dogs. There are water facilities available (hoses, water pails) and both areas are fully fenced with one double gate access.

The small dog park is not very large, but large enough that a group of dogs can run crazy...a large garden area was created, we're not sure why, because dogs will go into these gardens and poop. And someone decided to plant rose bushes in these areas - whoever came up with this should come and try to extricate the branches from my dogs' fur.

People are friendly and can sit in chairs that have been donated.

The large park is a nice size, but it is on the side of a hill, and tends to be pretty muddy after it rains.

The park does warn users that it will be closed after it rains, so sometimes going to this park is hit or miss.

It's nice, though, to have the 2 areas - reducing stress when having to bring small dogs or puppies.

park

It is actually quite big! And they usually close the day after it rains to let the ground dry. You have to actually see it inside to know how big it is.

This is a great park. There

This is a great park. There are two completely separate fenced areas so that the small dogs have their own space away from the large dogs. The park itself is good size. The dogs have this great big hill to run up, that will help to wear themselves out. There's also no shortage of balls. The dogs here are friendly and so are their owners.

I have been there and I like it. The large dog area has a huge tree with plenty of shade. The small dog area doesn't have that much shade. It is closed on Wed, but I have gone on other days and it was closed, this is because a dog vomited or diarrhea-they will tell you at the Humane Society. The large dog area has a big hill for the dogs to run up and down on. It was pretty cool. There are drinking bowls and some people donate toys for the dogs. Everyone is friendly and a lot of the dogs make friends!!

I took my pet there today and it was closed. It says that it is only closed on wednesdays.. and it wasnt late either. It was around 1 pm. And really there isn't a lot of room for bigger dogs to run.
