Sweethearts Mom Profile
About Me
Sweetheart is a White and Buff colored Lhasa Apso. Until she was (at best guess) 6 years old, she was kept alone in a garage, unsolcialized, and abused. I adopted her from the Humane society in 2000. The adoption was a miracle... a true "God" thing! If you see us, ask us about it. Anyway, it took Sweetheart about 3 years with me to get comfortable around men ... so we can guess which sex most likely abused her. Sweetheart was a "surrender" who went directly to the Humane society's hospital for over a week. I still don't know what was wrong with her, though. Since she was already named, I decided not to change her name and make her get used to one more new thing... and I'm glad I kept it, as it fits her perfectly. In January of 2010 Sweetheart was diagnosed with Diabetes. Since she has to endure getting two insulin injections every day. She doesn't like them, but she happily endures them since she gets a yam treat afterward every time. This year she also develped cataracts in both eyes and is now almost totally blind. Our best guess is that she can only see light/dark differences. However, she is doing beautifully! Lhasa's can live to be in their early 20's (the oldest recorded Lhasa was 29 years old!), so even with the diabetes, I expect Sweetheart to be with me for a while. Since I adopted Sweetheart in 2000, I also have been dealing with chronic pain and illness. Sweetheart has been and continues to be the most "healing" thing in my life. She is my "bestest blessing"!
