Sherwood Park Dog Park is dead

The dog park for Sherwood Park in Maplewood was defeated yesterday. The crowd was dominated by those opposed, complete with a petition to stop the dog park. One person got up and initially supported the park, then backed down. All others spoke against the park and the crowd applauded after every speaker. Me, and other members of the commission, were the only ones to argue for it. In the end, I motioned to pull it. It is my neighborhood and my neighbors. If the dog people cannot show up to support it, what can I do? Not one call or email sent in support.

How did the Rice Creek meeting go?

Dog Park Meetings May 19th

I just wanted to remind everyone of two important meetings this week pertaining to dog parks in the north metro. Both meetings are this Wednesday May 19th.

The first meeting is regarding improvements and fencing at the Rice Creek dog park. The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. at the Ramsey County public works building located at 1425 Kirkwood Drive, Arden Hills.

The second meeting is regarding a proposed dog park in the north part of Maplewood. The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. at the Maplewood City Hall.

I encourage anyone who may lice near these areas, or who feels strongly about supporting dog parks in Ramsey County to attend. Even if you are only a user at Otter Lake, additional dog parks and/or fencing at Rice Creek may reduce the traffic at Otter Lake and help to alleviate some of the overcrowding that we are experiencing at Otter Lake. Also an additional park and/or fencing at Rice Creek would offer an additional location for Otter Lake users when the park is closed for deer hunting or maintenance.
