Editor comment

I was reading the comments about the possible Maplewood Dog Park. I have added this as a dog park that is "COMING SOMEDAY?" http://www.dogparkusa.com/minnesota/minneapolis-st-paul/maplewood-dog-pa... You can start a group/forum on this dog park page and get others involved, post a pic or two of the proposed site. Just let me know if you need anything else. I am more than happy to include info to help others get involved in these processes.

Get the word out

This may sound obvious, but please spread the word out about the proposed dog park in Maplewood.

Maplewood Dog Park in Sherwood Park in jeopardy

Hi,

My name is Therese Sonnek. I am a Parks Commissioner for Maplewood. For the past 1.5 years I have been working towards the first city dog park in Maplewood, in the north part of town. Battle Creek is in Mpalewood, but way in the south leg. The Dog Park Task Force that I was on has recommended a new park, fully fenced, in Sherwood Park near Cope Avenue and White Bear Avenue. We sent out 400 letters to the neighborhood. About 180 of these were returned, and about 60% of those were against the dog park, and many were passionately so. At the Parks meeting this past week, four people showed up to speak against the park. No one came to speak for it. We are calling a public hearing at the next meeting. That will be at 7 pm on May 19th at City Hall. If you live in Maplewood, please come to this meeting if you want a dog park. If you don't live in Maplewood, you can still come. There may be an opportunity in the future for the dog park to include the deep pond there. It is not in the plans for this year. I am afraid there will be too much pressure on us to drop the whole idea.

This park was the most viable to all members of the task force, which included a non-dog person and an Environmental Resources Commission member as well.

Please come if you can!
