Imagine taking your two young children to the playground, only to find it locked up with a Closed due to lack of Funds sign, hanging on the gate. In our current economic struggle, this scenario is now what I fear for our U.S. dog parks.

Enter Adopt a Dog Park. This one, small website has very big aspirations. It is my hope to rally dog park lovers, educating them on the possible fate of their favorite off-leash areas. With knowledge, comes passion and action. I invite you to adopt your favorite dog park at the link above, or write to me at LetsAdoptaDogPark@gmail.com (It' FREE!).

As the author of All Things Dog Blog, and owner of a pack of 3 high-spirited pups, I have spent many hours at dog parks. On the road, I have enjoyed visiting new ones, and locally I continue to explore the ones in my area. If variety is the spice of life for us, it appears to be the same for my dogs.

Dog parks are my dogs sanctuary. The minute I release Tanner, Xena and Oliver from their leashes, inside gate, they knowinstinctivelythis is playtime. They run, they socialize, and they frolic with the sheer joy of being able to do these things without me at the end of a leash.

My canine companions teach me, every day, how to be a better pack leader. As we continue to enjoy visiting dog parks often, I have written about our experiences extensively at All Things Dog Blog. Some articles that you may find interesting are:

Adopt a dog park alternative

For anyone whose got a dog park in need of maintenance or upgrading and don't have the funds, contact your local Boy or Girl Scout troops, or your local high schools (if they have seniors in need of "senior projects"). They are always looking for good Eagle Scout or Gold Scout projects that benefit their community. My son for his Eagle Scout project built, installed, and is maintaining agility equipment at our local dog park (he put in over 100 hours of work, with the help of his troop, and got donations of lumbar and other stuff from local businesses). This can be a very rewarding project for our kids and it gets the community businesses involved and doesn't necessarily involve a lot of fundraising. Just a suggestion as an alternative or to go along with "adopt a dog park". I think adopting a dog park is a neat idea, too.
